September 16th: Santorini

Happy birthday Pa!!!

Woke up. Adi went to buy breakfast. Ate at our balcony, packed oup and off we go. Dropped our bags off at Pelican hotel's bag locker. 1.50 euros each bag then went to rent an ATV. Drove to Ancient Thira only to be notified that it's closed due to elections. *grumble* Walked all the way up anyway. Didn't drive as my bum didn't appreciate the rocky/bumpy ride on the rocks. Friggin' windy. Worse when we were all the way to the top. Can't stand still as the wind kept blowing us one way or another. Ok ... had enough. We go down.

Went to a winery museum/art space. Had a brief tour of the small place. The guy actually is using the old 'wells' to make wine. Amazing. Tasted some wine - Nyherti (night wine), a vinsanto (dessert wine - yummy!) and something akin to ouzo (blech!).

Drove then to Pirgo for lunch. Our ATV almost didn't make it up the hill. Had a quick lunch then decided to return the ATV and take the bus to red beach. Hung out there briefly. Red, red rocks. It's a red beach, white beach and black beach because of the rock colours.

Walked to Akrotiri to try to find a good spot for sunset. So damn windy! Ducked into a restaurant to have dinner. Pretty good food. Afterwards, wandered our way back to the bus stop and bused back to Fira. Got my ice-cream. I'm happy! Had a white russian and back to the bus stop to catch the bus to Athenos port to catch our ferry.
